Teen rape case

May 16, 2009 (Norwalk Reflector - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- By MARY LISA BOOSE No charges will be filed in the case of a Norwalk girl who accused a Milan Township boy of rape after a camp-out on the night of Edison High School's prom.

"We will not be pursuing any charges on that case," said Cheryl Goodrum, an Erie County assistant prosecutor who handles juvenile cases. The accused boy is 15 and the girl is 16.

Both teens attend Edison, but chose to attend the camp-out on property on Mudbrook Road in Milan Township instead of going to the school's prom.

Diana Kreglow, whose family owns the farm property, said after the incident parents weren't aware of any problem until Erie County deputies notified them about a phone call made to authorities at 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 3.

The girl was treated at Fisher-Titus Medical Center and released.

Kreglow said at the time her two children were part of the group of 12 teenagers camping out.

"I am shocked. My kids were shocked. These kids were all good friends. It's all very upsetting," she said.

"It was just a group of kids camping out," she said. "The kids who had elected to camp out elected not to go to prom." The boy was originally charged with two counts of rape after a deputy interviewed him, but he denied the charges in a hearing in Erie County Juvenile Court on May 4.

David Snook, Berlin-Milan superintendent, would not release any information about possible punishment or counseling the school would offer regarding the incident. He stressed the alleged offense didn't occur on school property or at a school event.

Thw Kreglows said they would not be commenting when reached by phone Friday evening.
